Welcome to Mrs. Wassmuth’s Page

I currently teach Art to grades Pre-K through 8 at Saints Philip and James School. I also serve as the moderator for the Art Club. Listed below you will find more information, including brief descriptions of the major academic topics we will cover at each grade level.

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”

Albert Einstein

Pre-K art students will be introduced to a new letter of the alphabet each week. The lesson begins with a book or video and is followed by an art project. Students learn basic coloring skills, and are taught new techniques. Projects are simple, allowing students to succeed and not get discouraged. Students in K-8 will learn a variety of advanced skills and techniques using many different art supplies. Students are given age appropriate projects and are encouraged to do their best. The focus is on developing the creative self while exploring the world of art. Students learn to analyze and interpret art of their own, classmates, and of famous artists. All assignments focus on the Seven Elements of Art: line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space. Projects include art from other cultures, famous artist styles, and religion in art. This class will develop creative thinking skills, and art appreciation. A Rubric is used for grading, looking for students who meet the objective Learned. An Art Club is available for students who want an additional art experience.

Thank you God for creating a beautiful world that we can learn about with joy and enthusiasm.
Help us develop our creative self and not be afraid to make a mistake.
Amen.
