Welcome to Miss Lynch’s Page

I currently teach Kindergarten at Saints Philip & James School. Listed below are brief descriptions of the major academic topics we will cover in each class.

Kindergarten

Math

Students will learn number names and count in sequence, count to tell the number of objects, and compare numbers. They will be able to understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from. Students will work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations for place value. Students will also classify objects, count the number of objects in each category, in addition to identifying and describing two and three dimensional shapes. They will learn how to analyze, compete, create, and compose shapes.

Reading/Phonics

Students will learn to write all letters and learn all letter sounds. Students will learn to read and write simple words and sentences. They will understand key ideas and details from a variety of literature and participate in discussions about kindergarten reading topics in small and large groups.

Science

Students will study what different types of plants and animals need to survive and the habitats where they live, as well as people. They will develop an understanding of local weather patterns and variations and how to use weather forecasting to prepare for and respond to severe weather. Students will learn about pushes and pulls and the sun in relation to how it affects the Earth.

Social Studies

Students will learn how to become responsible citizens of their community. Students will also learn about community helpers, rules in the community, and national holidays.

Religion

Students will be introduced to Bible stories and be led to a loving, personal relationship with God. Students will focus on coloring and simple puzzles to reinforce concepts. Every month students will learn about a different saint and complete a group saint project.
